Can somebody help me find an exchange program from Canada to Japan for the school year 2010-2011 or 2011-2012?

Such as a program where I’d be staying with a host family?
I can’t find anything.

Thank you so much!
Also, anyone who has done an exchange, can you tell me your experiences?

YFU, AFS, and Rotary are considered to be the “Big 3″ when it comes to exchanges (long histories, number of participants, etc.). Please forgive my bias towards YFU (and lack of knowledge about other organizations) – it’s the one that I have direct experience with (I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer in the USA). According to the YFU-Canada website (www.yfu.ca), they have programs to Japan. It appears that you still have time to apply for the 2010-2011 school year.

I would suggest contacting the YFU Canada office. As a note, I have heard that this office is fairly small, so please have some patience.

It appears that the YFU-Canada website is still growing. If you would like to contact a student from the USA who has gone to Japan, you can go to the YFUUSA alumni contact site (http://yfuusa.org/american-students/more-information/alumni-referral.php).

Which ever program you choose, make sure they are listed with the Council for Standards on International Educational Travel (csiet.org). They routinely audit programs for quality.

Good luck to you no matter what you choose!
